Fairy Tale »

I find it odd that there is violence in children books. It is weird because children are not supposed to be taught about violence or to do violence. I also find it weird how there is talking animals and stuff, it may be a fairy tale but that is not reality. There is also magic and there isn’t magic in the real world like there is in fairy tales. Looking at the story lines now i find them odd because it teaches kids to rely on magic and violence. Although they show signs like this I believe the stories should stay the same because they have been around for years and will never go away for centuries more.

I found a weird story called The Witch Princess. It is a very odd story, they say stuff like “Wait, wait!” said the oldest doctor. “There is one remedy. You will have to take a bath in … er, ah … in the blood of … er … some prince of nobler birth than your own!” Why would someone want to show children that. I find it very odd to tell children to bathe someone in blood. Even though this may seem like a big deal to some I don’t believe that fairy tales are going to hurt anyone. If children enjoy reading them. Let them read them. I hope my kids enjoy the fairy tales like I did when I was young.

My Relationship With My Parents »

My parents and I have a farely good relationship. Although we don’t talk about stuff that is a concern or anything and I like that. They never ask me whats bothering me or anything if something is and I seem to like that. We seem to fight over stupid things every once in awhile. I hope our relationship stays the same in the future and that I can come to them whenever I need help or support.

An example between a unique relationship on tv with parents and kids is Two and a Half Men. It is unique because a father and his son is living with the sons uncle because his father got divorced. The father is a good influence on the kid where as the uncle isn’t because he likes to drink and have woman over all the time. It is a different relationship that most families would have because most people wouldn’t live like they do, it is just what tv makes them look like it would happen like that.

Childhood Memories »

Many authors write about their past and memories. I feel that this is because they feel like they should get it out of their system and let people know what happened when they were younger. Like in the story we just read “The Rink” an old man had a bad relationship with his son. When his wife died there was no one to stop the fighting between them so the old man built a rink in his backyard acting as a way to solve there problems as she was gone. I believe this is a situation the author has either been in or knows someone who as been in it.

Reading these stories make me realise what you can learn from going into your past. Although most of your memories are just a blur when you do something you haven’t none since you were a little kid, they all start to come back to you and are not a blur anymore. Once you go back though its just another fond memory and you think, really. Who cares? It’s just another memory.

Life Pressures »

There is a pressures around the world that people suffer everyday. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from. We all deal with pressure and give pressure. We recently did a unit on life pressures and discussed a couple of things but one thing that hit me most was the story The Michelle I know by Allison Lohans.

This got to me because there was a girl who has cancer and she had been waiting for him all night to come visit her just like every other day but this day was different. He was late. While she was waiting she had met a new person who had given her a new look at life. A bit later her boyfriend had showed up. He was late because of the thick fog. She was scared that he had forgotten about her and didn’t wanna be with her no more but she was wrong. She thought there was no point of living because of her cancer but there is always that special person out there that will be with you for life.

Everyone will find someone that will put up with them for life. You just have to get out there and find that person and take the path chosen for you!

Dielle had a good point on this too. Check it out.

Interview Assignment »

We recently did an assignment that we interviewed an elder, teacher, and parent. We asked them what there biggest life changing moment was and what is an important lesson to learn in life as a person. The one person that I thought was right about the lesson was my brother.

I listened to my brothers because he said to live your life now. I think that is a good answer because you only live one life and if your just going to waste it doing something that your not having fun. Then why live unhappy? Live every minute like it is your last.

Another thing I learned is that you may plan life how you want it but it may not ever turn out a thing like you planned it to be. Mrs. Long probaly didnt plan on having a child at a young age but she did and she said that she had to learn how to grow up really fast which I think would suck because she didn’t get to live her life how she wanted i dont believe. So i want to live my life to the fullest and hopefully have the best expierences in life that i could possibly have.

This music video of the song Live Like You Were Dying is a great example of living your life now instead of never.

I left a comment on Troy’s post. Check it out.

Narrative Assignment »

I was walking down the street on a bright afternoon. The sun was shining off the sidewalk making me glare. There was a black man in front of me who was wearing baggy jeans and a long white T. He had happened to be my friend. We were meeting at the street corner to go and hang out. As I was walking, there was a police car passing me. They looked at my friend like he had done something wrong. They started pointing at him and laughing.

Then all of the sudden it sped. The two officers threw their doors open and lept out of the car. The one used pepper spray on him while the other jumped him. Charles was then squirming on the ground. They searched Charles and stripped him down right on the sidewalk. They had jumped him for no reason. They suspected that he had an illegal weapon on him, which Charles did not.

They arrested him anyway. They took him in for suspicion of robbing a grocery store down the street, just because he was black; they tackled him and arrested him for no reason. That day, I will always remember how racism affected my friend’s life.

Mike had a good story about racism. Check it out.

Do we have a global responsibility? »

We had to write an essay about rights and responsibilites. I chose child poverty. I never realised that child poverty was such an issue in Canada. When you think of child poverty you usually think about Africa but did you know that Canada has a huge child poverty rate. It is even one of the highest in the world.

I think Canada should do something about this. We should do something because for a country in such good shape for being in recession we shouldn’t have such a huge child poverty rate. We should give these kids jobs or help there families out if we are not already. While we are at it we should be helping other countries too!

Trevor had a good post too. Check it out.

Why Do People Judge? »

Why do people judge others? I think people judge others because they are sometimes jealous. They also think that they are always right about the person they are judging. People may judge about how one dresses or how they appear. Also they may judge if the person is gay or not.

The consequences in this can be very bad. They can be very bad because you may be wrong about the person. Like say you think they are a very mean person or they dress really bad that they are not a person you would want to be seen with. You could be wrong because that person may have a reason that they dress like that or they could be a really nice person that you don’t know about. So don’t judge!

Troy had a good post also. Check it out.

Review of the novel »

I liked the  novel Of Mice and Men. It was good because it was something different than other novels where they do not kill the person, they just fix him. I also liked it because it was interesting how Lennie would act. This was a good novel and I would recommend it.

George found himself in a difficult situation because he didn’t know what to do to his best friend. I believe he did the right thing and killed Lennie because he had done something very wrong and they would have had to keep running from it. It was a good ending because I didn’t not expect it. Everyone may still be alone but not everyone can have a friend to travel around with back in the day like that.

Zac had a good post too. Check it out.

Racial Inequalities »

In this past unit we discussed racial inequality. We read a story called Panache where 3 native applied to an oil rig job that they were accepted to. They had to travel to the job and when they got there they found out that the only reason they were accepted was because of affirmative action. They were casted aside as losers and were given jobs without much thought to them. The other white men on the rig ignored them until one day and accident happened where one native man saved the life of one of the white men. Sadly, the native man died saving the white man. After this accident the white men decided to act as friends to the other two native men and took them out for drinks to mourn their friend. I didn’t like this story because of the racial inequalities and because the white men don’t care about the native men they just want to have a reason to drink. I feel this story relates to reality in today’s society, especially in Canada and Saskatchewan, because we have a high native population.

Another reason I hate racial inequality is because it happens to use white people too, ecpecially in areas of the world like Arfica. A white person can’t go to some countires in Africa because they will be shot just becuase they are white. Now if that isn’t racial inequlity then i don’t know what is? We watched a youtube video about this in class, where a man who grew up in South Africa talked about being discriminated against because he is white.

Dr solid had also written a good post about this and he is white.
